‏أَبرَهَةُ الحَبَشِيُّ‏

‏وَهُوَ الَّذِي قَادَ جَيشًا كَبِيرًا يَتَقَدَّمُهُ الفِيَلَةُ وَحَاوَلَ هَدمَ الكَعبَةِ‏
Abrahah Al-Habashi : The commander who led a huge army supported by elephants in an attempt to destroy the Ka`bah
‏أُمَّهَاتُ المُؤمِنِينَ‏

‏وَهُنَّ زَوجَاتُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ‏
Mothers of the Believers : Wives of the Messenger
‏أَمِيرُ المُؤمِنِينَ‏

‏أَي قَائِدُهُم وَالقَائِمُ عَلَى أُمُورِهِم‏
Emir of the Believers : A title given to the caliph
‏أَنسَابُ العَرَبِ‏

‏الأَنسَابُ جَمَعُ نَسَبٍ وَالنَّسَبُ هُوَ الأُصُولُ الَّتِي يَنحَدِرُ مِنهَا النَّسَبُ كَالأَبِ وَالجَدِّ، وَلَقَد عُرِفَ عَنِ العَرَبِ اِهتِمَامُهُم بِالأَنسَابِ، وَيَرجِعُ نَسَبُ الرَّسُولِ (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ) إِلَى إِبرَاهِيمَ الخَلِيلِ عَلَيهِ السَّلَامُ.‏
Arab genealogy : Arabs used to pride themselves on their noble birth and pure lineage. The Prophet's ancestry can be traced back to the Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him).
‏أَهلُ الصُّفَّةِ‏

‏الصُّفَّةُ مَكَانٌ مُظَلَّلٌ فِي مَسجِدِ الرَّسُولِ فِي المَدِينَةِ كَانَ يَأوِي إِلَيهِ فُقَرَاءُ المُهَاجِرِينَ‏
The people of Al-Suffah : Poor Immigrants who used to live in a covered section of the Prophet's Mosque
‏أَهلُ يَثرِبَ‏

‏اِلتَقَى النَّبِيُّ (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ) مَعَ مَجمُوعَةٍ مِن أَهلِ يَثرِبَ أَثنَاءَ مَوسِمِ الحَجِّ، وَعَرَضَ عَلَيهِم الدُّخُولَ فِي الإِسلَامِ.‏
The people of Yathrib : The Prophet met some of the people of Yathrib during the Hajj season and invited them to get into the new religion, Islam.
‏أَوَّلُ مَن آمَنَ مِن الرِّجَالِ‏

‏هُوَ أَبُو بَكرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنهُ‏
The first man to embrace Islam : It was Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him
‏أَوَّلُ مَن آمَنَ مِن الصِّبيَانِ‏

‏هُوَ عَلِيُّ بنُ أَبِي طَالِب رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنهُ‏
The first child to accept Islam : It was `Ali bin Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him
‏أَوَّلُ مَن آمَنَ مِن النِّسَاءِ‏

‏هِيَ خَدِيجَةُ زَوجُ الرَّسُولِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ‏
The first woman to embrace Islam : It was Khadijah, the Prophet's wife
‏إِجلَاءٌ‏

‏أَي خُرُوجٌ، أُخرِجَ اليَهُودُ مِنَ المَدِينَةِ لِنَقضِهِم المَوَاثِيقَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ.‏
Evacuation : Jews were expelled from Medina due to their violation of the covenant they had held with the Prophet (peace be upon him).
‏إِسلَامُ حَمزَةَ‏

‏كَانَ إِسلَامُ حَمزَةَ لَطمَةً شَدِيدَةً لِقُرَيشٍ لِمَا عُرِفَ بِهِ بَينَهُم مِن شِدَّةِ البَأسِ وَالشَّجَاعَةِ الأُسطُورِيَّةِ.‏
Hamzah's conversion to Islam : Hamzah's acceptance of Islam was a great blow to the Quraish because Hamzah was widely respected and his courage was legendary.
‏إِسلَامُ عُمَرَ‏

‏تَضَاعَفَت ثِقَةُ المُسلِمِينَ بِأَنفُسِهِم بَعدَ أَن أَعلَنَ عُمَرُ إِسلَامَهُ، كَمَا اِشتَاطَت قُرَيشٌ غَضَبًا لَمَّا وَصَلَ إِسلَامُ عُمَرَ إِلَى أَسمَاعِهَا .‏
`Umar bin Al-Khattab's conversion to Islam : Muslims' confidence increased when `Umar became a Muslim. News that `Umar became a Muslim quickly spread among the Quraish who became very annoyed.
‏إِعرَاضٌ‏

‏أَي الصَّدُّ وَالتَّوَلِّي، وَالإِشَاحَةُ بِالوَجهِ، وَلَقَد أَعرَضَت قُرَيشٌ عَن دَعوَةِ الرَّسُولِ وَأَبَوا الدُّخُولَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ.‏

Shunning : The Quraish turned away from the Prophet's call to Islam
‏إِلقَاءُ الرَّهبَةِ فِي قُلُوبِ الرُّومِ‏

‏أَي قَذفُ الخَوفِ فِي قُلُوبِهِم‏
Threatening the Romans
‏إِنذَارُ قُرَيشٍ‏

‏أَي تَحذِيرُهُم وَتَروِيعُهُم خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى صَعِدَ الصَّفَا فَهَتَفَ يَا صَبَاحَاه فَقَالُوا مَن هَذَا الَّذِي يَهتِفُ قَالُوا مُحَمَّدٌ فَاجتَمَعُوا إِلَيهِ فَقَالَ يَا بَنِي فُلَانٍ يَا بَنِي فُلَانٍ يَا بَنِي فُلَانٍ يَا بَنِي عَبدِ مَنَافٍ يَا بَنِي عَبدِ المُطَّلِبِ فَاجتَمَعُوا إِلَيهِ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيتَكُم لَو أَخبَرتُكُم أَنَّ خَيلًا تَخرُجُ بِسَفحِ هَذَا الجَبَلِ أَكُنتُم مُصَدِّقِيَّ قَالُوا مَا جَرَّبنَا عَلَيكَ كَذِبًا قَالَ فَإِنِّي نَذِيرٌ لَكُم بَينَ يَدَي عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ.‏
Warning the Quraish : The Prophet (peace be upon him) climbed up the mountain Safa and proclaimed, "O Banu `Abdul-Muttalib! O Banu Fihr! O Banu Ka`b! If I told you that there had been knights (horsemen) on the other side of this mountain about to attack you, would you have believed me?" "Yes" they replied. Then the Messenger of Allah said, "Then, I warn you of Allah's terrible punishment (if you did not embrace Islam)."
‏إِيذَاءٌ‏

‏أَي إِلحَاقُ الضَّرَرِ وَالأَذَى قَولًا وَفِعلًا بِالآخَرِينَ، وَلَقَد صَبَّت قُرَيشٌ غَضَبَهَا عَلَى المُسلِمِينَ، فَسَجَنُوهُم وَعَذَّبُوهُم بِالضَّربِ وَالجُوعِ وَالعَطَشِ وَالرَّميِ عَلَى الرِّمَالِ الشَّدِيدَةِ الحَرَارَةِ.‏
Persecution : The Quraish's wrath was wreaked on their fellow tribesmen who had become Muslims. They began to imprison and torture them by beating them, letting them hungry and thirsty, even leaving them exposed on the sun-baked ground when the heat was most intense.
‏إِيذَاءُ قُرَيشٍ لِلنَّبِيِّ‏

‏آذَت قُرَيشٌ الرَّسُولَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكُلَّ مَن آمَنَ بِهِ‏
The Quraish's persecution of the Prophet : The Quraish persecuted the Prophet (peace be upon him) and all who believed in him
‏اِستِسلَامُ مَكَّةَ‏

‏وَقَعَت مُنَاوَشَةٌ خَفِيفَةٌ بَينَ المُسلِمِينَ وَقُرَيشٍ قُتِلَ فِيهَا اِثنَا عَشَرَ مُشرِكًا ، عِندَمَا حَاوَلُوا إِيقَافَ تَقَدُّمِ المُسلِمِينَ، وَلَمَّا رَأَت قُرَيشٌ مَا بِالمُسلِمِينَ مِن قُوَّةٍ اِستَسلَمَت وَدَخَلَ المُسلِمُونَ مَكَّةَ فَاتِحِينَ.‏
Surrender of Mecca : A small skirmish broke between the Muslims and the Quraish in which twelve idol worshippers were killed when they tried to stop the advance of the Muslim forces. The rest gave in without further bloodshed.
‏الأَبُ‏

‏أَبُو النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ عَبدُ اللَّهِ بنُ عَبدِ المُطَّلِبِ ، الاِبنُ العَاشِرُ لِعَبدِ المُطَّلِبِ، سَيِّدُ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، وَالَّذِي زَوَّجَ اِبنَهُ عَبدَ اللَّهِ مِن آمِنَةَ بِنتِ وَهبٍ سَيِّدِ بَنِي زَهرَةَ، وَقَد مَاتَ عَبدُ اللَّهِ وَابنُهُ مُحَمَّدٌ فِي بَطنِ أُمِّهِ.‏
His Father : Muhammad's father was `Abdullah bin `Abdul-Muttalib. `Abdullah, the tenth son of `Abdul-Muttalib, was the best among `Abdul-Muttalib's sons. His father married him to Aminah, daughter of Wahb, chieftain of Banu Zuhrah. `Abdullah and Aminah had a very happy life. He died before Muhammad's birth.
‏الأَعرَابُ‏

‏هُم البَدوُ الَّذِينَ لَا عِلمَ لَهُم وَلَا مَدَنِيَّةَ‏
